About DJ Ironarm
Who We Are
I was born in Wellingborough in 1978, and music has been at the centre of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up collecting every Now That’s What I Call Music cassette, spending my weekends in the local HMV picking up the latest singles in their cardboard sleeves. I was that kid at school who always had the newest Walkman and was forever experimenting with different headphones to make everything sound just a little bit better.
My journey into DJ’ing started when the Essential Collection albums came out. I became fascinated by how tracks flowed and blended together, and I had to try it for myself. I headed to a second-hand shop and picked up a battered mixer, an old record deck, and a CD player—far from perfect, but it was my first bedroom setup. Before long I’d moved fully to CDs and even got hold of a CD recorder, spending hours putting together mixes. They weren’t great, but I loved every minute of it.
Everything changed when I met a local mobile DJ. I tagged along to his gigs every week, helping with the gear and soaking up everything I could. He focused on choosing the right tracks—back when it was all CDs and you really had to know your collection—while I handled the mixing. From there, things just took off.
I took a break from gigging for a few years due to family life and a move to the West Midlands, but I always kept enough equipment around to play for friends, family, and the odd event. Now that the kids are older, it’s time to get back to what I love most: creating moments through music. There’s something special about making someone’s day simply by playing the right track at the right time.
Inclusivity has always been a core part of what I do. I’m proud to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, and I strive to create spaces where everyone feels welcome, represented, and free to be themselves. Music is for everyone, and some of the best nights I’ve ever played have been ones filled with love, colour, pride, and a dancefloor where all identities can shine.
I enjoy all styles of music and love the energy of a proper sound system. Over the years I’ve played everything from Motown and disco to 90s classics and the latest chart hits—but most nights end up being a mix of everything. I always play what works for the crowd and the dancefloor.
To me, that’s the real art of DJ’ing. We all know the tunes—it’s knowing when to drop them that makes the magic happen
